Stagecoach has published a new timetable for its Citi 7 service and it’s a bit of a shocker. Although changes had been trailed earlier with a mix of positives and negatives what’s actually transpired is largely negative. Read the rest of this entry.

When Cottenham residents heard that the link between between Pelham Way and Harlestones Road was being opened up to traffic as a part of the Lamb’s Lane resurfacing project they feared the worst. However County officers met and briefed David and Sue and members of the parish council and explained what they really planned to do. Read the rest of this entry.

2 Lib Dem County Councillors for CH&I …

June 5th, 2009 by davidjenkins

dscn0991-election-result.jpg

… and for the Meadows, Oakington, Orchard Park, Rampton and Westwick.

It was a humbling result in Cottenham, Histon and Impington this week. After a long and exhausting campaign the Lib Dems won both county council seats. David Jenkins retained his coming top of the poll and Sue Gymer was elected just ahead of the two Tory candidates.  The margin between 2nd and 3rd was slim enough to justify a recount. Dropped kerbs are more of a problem

March 9th, 2009 by davidjenkins

dscn0670-slope.jpg

The County has a well defined set of rules relating to dropped kerbs so that they do not make life more difficult for those with mobility problems, wheelchair and motorised scooter users and people with push chairs. The trouble is that they’re more often than not observed in the breach and this has been compounded by inadequate enforcement in recent years. Read the rest of this entry.

dscn0506-cvc.jpg

Cottenham Village Collegeis one of the many schools in Cambridgeshire which does an excellent job for its students. no safe crossing around the Green

January 3rd, 2009 by davidjenkins

dscn0455-cottenham-green.jpg

It’s bad enough having a classified road driving through the middle of your village but it’s worse when there’s no safe way to cross it. This is the case with Cottenham and the B1049 especially in the south of the village where it separates Cottenham’s 2 schools from around a half of their students. Read the rest of this entry.

Our footways are cracking up

September 29th, 2008 by davidjenkins

cimg3060-histon-road-cracks.jpgcimg3056-cambridge-road-oakington-cracks.jpgcimg3077-cambridge-road-impington-cracks.jpg

On three of our footways (that’s a footpath next to a road) major cracks have appeared. On Cambridge Road next to the Gatehouse Lane junction in Oakington (left picture above), on Histon Road as you walk or cycle south out of Cottenham (centre one) and on Cambridge Road next to the B1049 in Impington the tarmac surface has ruptured. Neither footway is dangerous yet but they certainly look like they’re going to get worse. Read the rest of this entry »

Positive progress at the co-op corner

September 19th, 2008 by davidjenkins

cimg2990-cottenhm-co-op-corner.jpg

The co-op corner is a notorious traffic black spot in Cottenham. If it’s not illegal parking it’s the co-op’s delivery vehicles blocking the road and if it’s not that it’s drivers taking the corner too fast. Recently a local resident got so fed up with the co-op vehicles that he wrote to the co-op’s management and contacted local County Councillor David Jenkins. And we have lift off! July 12th, 2008 by davidjenkins

cimg2060-rampton-greeen.JPG

The Area Joint Committee is a joint committee of the County Council, South Cambs and parish councils and is the body that decides whether or not transport schemes are supported. It meets about 4 times a year and at its last meeting (7 Jul 08) the list of ‘minor traffic management measures (no budget currently identified)’ was tabled. Many schemes on this list have been scheduled for action but then have been put back as the County Council has withdrawn funding during the year. Read the rest of this entry »
