Mixed messages from Place Survey
Cambridgeshire County Council has just released the results of its ‘Place Survey’. This is market research carried out by MRUK to determine residents’ perceptions of this council and its partner councils in Cambridgeshire. Greening Histon & Impington Launch Event
HICCA(Histon and Impington Climate Change Action) is launching its ‘Greening Histon and Impington’ campaign this Saturday (28 Feb 09) with an event at the Histon Baptist Church. The event runs from 2 to 4 pm with the official launch taking place at 3pm. Villages to lose bus service
Residents of Cottenham, Histon and Impington are to lose a valuable bus service when Myall’s ceases its 104 Sunday operation next month. The service runs until 11pm and when it goes there will no longer be a public transport link between the villages and Cambridge in the evening. Read the rest of this entry.
First the snow, then the grit and now the holes in the road
The recent bad weather played havoc with traffic, work schedules and school attendance and now that it’s behind us its impact on the county’s roads is apparent. Lib Dems propose more police in the community
In their alternative budget for Cambridgeshire County Council the Lib Dems have proposed spending £350 thousand in 2009/10 to fund extra police officers to work in communities across the county. They would increase this to £750 thousand in 2010/11. Read the rest of this entry.
Cambridgeshire Lib Dems propose a 2.9% council tax rise and over £10 million more for priority services
The Liberal Democrat alternative budget for Cambridgeshire proposes a 2.9%increase in Council Tax this year compared to the Conservative plan for a 4.7% hike, way above inflation. Next year the LD increase would be 3.7% as against another 4.7% from the Tories. In addition, the Liberal Democrats propose £10.5 million extra spending on priority services. no speed control in Oakington
There are three flashing speed signs in Oakington and Westwick and none of them work. They’ve been there for about 3 years and they’ve never worked. One of them’s even been decapitated. They were installed as a part of the ‘A14 rat running fund’ and are a classic example of wasting money. Read the rest of this entry.
6th form for Cottenham Village College
Cottenham Village Collegeis one of the many schools in Cambridgeshire which does an excellent job for its students. The latest Ofsted report concluded that ‘leadership is outstanding’, that ‘teaching and learning is good’ and that ‘the proportion of students attaining five GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and Mathematics, was significantly above the national average’. The College has a first specialism in mathematics and computing; recently it was designated a high performing specialist school and gained a second specialism in vocational education. Haviland Way: support for children and families
Haviland Way is one of many locations in Cambridgeshire where the County Council provides services for young people. It supports their families by enabling young people with physical and learning disabilities to take short breaks in appropriate residential accommodation with excellent support.
