The recent bad weather played havoc with traffic, work schedules and school attendance and now that it’s behind us its impact on the county’s roads is apparent. The combination of frost and grit has opened up cracks which have then become potholes as cars and trucks have driven over them.
There are problems on both major and minor routes and many seem to be apparent where earlier patch repairs have taken place. It appears that the Council may be reaping the rewards of insufficient investment in highway repairs over recent years.
County Councillor David Jenkins said: ‘I’m not surprised. There’s evidence of roads in poor states of repair throughout the county. Some repairs are being done but with little money in the budget these are being prioritised. Big holes are being filled straight away. Small ones are left alone until they get bigger!’
