“Powerful.. compelling.. incredibly entertaining.. it could change your life” These are some of the comments made about Age of Stupid, the brilliant new climate change movie starring Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking for clues and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

The movie is being put on by HICCA, Histon and Impington Climate Change Action, and everyone is invited to come and see it, for free, on Friday 22nd May at the Methodist Hall on the High Street, Histon. Doors open at 6.30 for a prompt 7 pm start. This is the premiere of the independent screenings of this important film, and it is being shown at hundreds of venues up and down the country, including Downing Street. After the film there will be a live link to join a nationwide discussion of the film.

The movie screening is the latest in a series of events in the village drawing attention to climate change and how everyone can play his or her part in preventing the scarier scenarios by moving towards a low carbon world.

Earlier in the year HICCA asked householders to commit to at least five energy saving actions and to put a Greening Histon & Impington card in their window. An impressive number, over 440, joined in making HICCA’s efforts to fight climate change visible and saving an estimated 446 tonnes of greenhouse gases.

County Councillor David Jenkins is enthusiastic about HICCA and its initiatives. I put a Greening card in my window because I met the Greening minimum criteria. I’m pleased to say that I’m now well above the minimum as I’ve installed water use reduction ‘hippos’ in the toilets in my house!’
