There are three flashing speed signs in Oakington and Westwick and none of them work. They’ve been there for about 3 years and they’ve never worked. One of them’s even been decapitated. CAB denied emergency funding
People desperate for financial and legal advice are less important than party political one-upmanship. This seems to be the only conclusion possible from the rejection, by the Conservatives in charge of the County Council, of a plan to grant £100,000 immediately, and more next year, to advice agencies such as the Citizens’ Advice Bureau. Another week, another by-election and another Lib Dem gain from the Conservatives. Just right for Christmas! This by-election, for the Cambridgeshire County Council division of Hardwick, came about as a result of the disqualification of the sitting Tory councillor. Local campaigner and activist Fiona Whelan had been preparing to fight the seat next year but got an early chance to show what she could do. She took it and delivered. Well done Fiona.
